Welcome, dear one!
My name is Sophie Rasheed. I'm a third generation Australian with Lebanese roots, and an emerging, Melbourne based visual artist and arts facilitator.
My artistic practice has forever doubled as the anchor to my reality and the portal that releases me from it.
Working primarily with paints, watercolours and pens, my work is composed of vibrant colours and an embedded flow of organic forms and patterns. My work - surrealist, abstract and visionary in nature - aims to reveal altered perceptions of our reality, the relationships to Self and Mother Nature, as well as to encourage a deeper examination of the vital, intricate and beautiful void that is our imagination. By visualising and portraying my own interactions with these themes, I aim to prompt your reflection upon your own experience, extending to that of the wider ‘collective’ - indeed, the shared experience.
Interwoven with references to my connection with and deeply rooted appreciation for our Earth, I draw inspiration from the interplay of conscious and subconscious states, innocent playfulness, spirituality and reflections upon the essence of our existence in which movement is a constant; stasis is an illusion.
With this as my internal framework, creating is, therefore, a direct access to the exploration of my inner labyrinth and the happenings of the external realm.
For it is amidst this liminal, timeless space where all is conscious and observing; where chaos and harmony unify. Where the seeds of an expanded, more connected consciousness are sewn.
Thank you for being here.
Much love,
Sophie
